Party On

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

April 18th started as a temperate Sunday morning, with dark skies looming overhead. This was the day we would have our mini-sessions at the park–our (Portrait) Party For Layla.

Layla Grace Marsh was a sweet 2 year old girl that lost her battle with cancer in April 2010. Her story captured the hearts of people across the country.

How would we honor her memory? The plan was simple; ten boutique photographers across Houston provide affordable mini-sessions for children with 100% of session fee proceeds going towards the Layla Grace Childhood Cancer Research Foundation. Participants give a session fee “donation,” and receive a 20 minute photography session and an 8×10 print. Getting back while giving back–easy, right?

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Rain started pouring down by noon that day and only a few photographers were able to shoot before the deluge. Luckily I was one of them, photographing almost all of the children on the schedule. And what little beauties they were! We had so much fun being silly and chasing each other around. Even the Channel 2 News crew came out to do a story on the event (gasp! I was so nervous!).

For those who were not able to be photographed, the rain-out date had been set for the following Sunday.  It was a perfect day for Houston area photographers to shoot children in locations all over the city.  Thanks in part to our excellent media coverage, the event was a huge success!  Sadly I was not able to participate then.

But don’t worry, I’m hosting another date on Sunday, May 23rd. Yay! I’m am almost completely booked, so if you’d like to take part in an awesome opportunity to raise money for childhood cancer research, please click the banner below to get redirected to to book your spot. Currently, there are no plans to make this a monthly event, but if we’re lucky, it might be a yearly thing. We’ll just have to see. So sign up and support the cause. Let’s party on!

(Psst, If you’re on Facebook and “like” the photos, tag yourself! You know you want to.)

I Love You, You Love Me…

Monday, April 28th, 2008
These two were so much fun to work with. Will was totally portrait-ready and Kate just needed a little coaxing. But when we got them together, they really showed us the true meaning of “brotherly love” (or sisterly love, what have you). I think anyone with multiple children can relate.

Busy, Busy, Busy Bee

That’s me. Way too busy to really tell you much more. Here is my blog entry for March. I’m so bad. ;)

A Good Book

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

Meet the K family. There’s nothing like a good Dr. Seuss anthology to bring a family together. At the end of a fun and playful session, they settled in a chair to read Horton Hears a Who. It’s really nice to see a family that is really close like these guys. The kids were a blast; Katherine is 2 and Christopher is 4. Mom and Dad were great sports.

Christopher has such an exuberant personality. He was full of boundless energy and was so curious about my camera (Mom says he loves all things electronic). He actually took a few pictures with it, which turned out pretty good. We seem to have a budding photographer on our hands.

Katherine is such a sweet girl. Though it took a while to warm her up, when she finally got that smile going, she just sparkled. We had a blast singing the theme to Wonderpets (yes, I know all the words) and hiding from Christopher.

I have so many images from this shoot. Guys, thanks for waiting for these. I hope you enjoy them.

I was given the opportunity to photograph generations of a family coming together. It was very cool.

Grandpa got to meet his grandson for the first time and the older grand kids came to visit Houston and see Grandma. And my newborn LM has grown so big. He’s such a beautiful baby! I can’t wait to see him again.

This family was such a pleasure to shoot. They are always fun and the nicest bunch of people. I had the best time photographing this rare moment together.
