Party On

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

April 18th started as a temperate Sunday morning, with dark skies looming overhead. This was the day we would have our mini-sessions at the park–our (Portrait) Party For Layla.

Layla Grace Marsh was a sweet 2 year old girl that lost her battle with cancer in April 2010. Her story captured the hearts of people across the country.

How would we honor her memory? The plan was simple; ten boutique photographers across Houston provide affordable mini-sessions for children with 100% of session fee proceeds going towards the Layla Grace Childhood Cancer Research Foundation. Participants give a session fee “donation,” and receive a 20 minute photography session and an 8×10 print. Getting back while giving back–easy, right?

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Rain started pouring down by noon that day and only a few photographers were able to shoot before the deluge. Luckily I was one of them, photographing almost all of the children on the schedule. And what little beauties they were! We had so much fun being silly and chasing each other around. Even the Channel 2 News crew came out to do a story on the event (gasp! I was so nervous!).

For those who were not able to be photographed, the rain-out date had been set for the following Sunday.  It was a perfect day for Houston area photographers to shoot children in locations all over the city.  Thanks in part to our excellent media coverage, the event was a huge success!  Sadly I was not able to participate then.

But don’t worry, I’m hosting another date on Sunday, May 23rd. Yay! I’m am almost completely booked, so if you’d like to take part in an awesome opportunity to raise money for childhood cancer research, please click the banner below to get redirected to PartyforLayla.com to book your spot. Currently, there are no plans to make this a monthly event, but if we’re lucky, it might be a yearly thing. We’ll just have to see. So sign up and support the cause. Let’s party on!

(Psst, If you’re on Facebook and “like” the photos, tag yourself! You know you want to.)

Here Comes the Sun

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

The best part of my job is that I get to watch families grow.  This is pretty little Payton at six months old.  Another one of my baby plan babies and the heart of this cute little family. We decided to venture outdoors in the beautiful weather and take advantage of the setting sun. I love lens flare.

I’m a Poster, Child

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Get it?  Poster, child?  Blog post? Poster child?  Yeah. Ok.  For what?  Me: for being the worst blogger on earth.   Oh, yeah.  But don’t mind me.  I’m just blogging now.

This is little Ava.  She is the poster child for cuteness.  I think I want to steal her and keep her for my own.  I’ve always wanted a blue-eyed baby.  Here she is in all her cute, chunky glory at six months old.  She’s one of my “baby plan” babies, so you will be seeing a lot more of her.  Yay!  You can’t wait either can you?

Tots and Taters

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Look how big Max got! He’s such a big yummy baby now. Nothing better than a chubby little baby face. Remember when he was only 6 days old? I love watching them grow. And I know you’ve never met his awesome big sister. She was such a dream to work with! We had so much fun running around. I don’t know who was more tired by the end of the session, me, them or Mommy. I hope Daddy loved his Father’s Day gift.

It Goes By Too Fast

Monday, April 28th, 2008
Doesn’t it? First met this little guy at 6 days old…next thing you know, he’ll be a teenager! Which means I should blog this before he gets there. Ha ha.

Here he was when we first met: http://jaynemaltbie.blogspot.com/2007/10/sleep-like-rock.html

Blogalicious

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

So I missed the whole month of March. How embarassing. It wasn’t for the lack of trying…I just can’t find the time. I promise, I promise, I promise…

I worked with Steven and his family back during the holdiay rush. Here he is at 8 months old, my how he’s grown. I tell you it goes by so fast. What a yummy little boy! He was so ready to have his portrait taken again.

Where to Start?

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Yeah, so as if you didn’t know…I suck at blogging. Keeping up with it anyway. I am one busy girl these days. I’ve had so many sessions from last year that I never had a chance to post. I’ve worked with so many beautiful families and children. It would be a crime not to show them off. So look for posts from old sessions, as I have lots of them to share. ;)

I’m working on improving my website and blog this year. I will also be running a bunch of promotions and specials as well as looking for new models for my portfolio…so look out for that.

Anyhow, without further delay…Tyler and his wonderful family for thier Holiday portraits. Love his little smile.

Sparkle and Shine

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Have I ever mentioned how much I love my job? The truth is, I work with the most beautiful people, inside and out. This family welcomed me into their home for a newborn session a while ago (hmmm, I should post that one) and I had the best time working with their beautiful daughters. Celia has such a bright personality (and the most beautiful face). And now it seems little Mira’s is coming out too. They must get it from their parents; the nicest bunch of people you’ll ever meet. Hope you guys love this sneak preview…super hard to choose images to share! Happy Holidays!

Cinnamon Rolls

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

That’s what I think of when I look at this little guy. Not just sweet, but his little arms and legs were so full of rolls…you just want to take a big bite. Chunky babies are my favorite. He is a total pleasure to work with as usual. Always knows how to work the camera with his smile. And the weird thing is he looks like such a little man…kind of like a baby version of Russell Crowe. Check out the last image…total celeb look alike. :)

This is what he thought of that Santa hat. Couldn’t keep it on his head for very long.

The Littlest Tiger

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

I have never seen a cuter Tiger than little Braden! His folks are LSU alma mater and are grooming him for collegiate success already! Its never too late to start right? I had a great time at this session. Trying to get 3 month old Braden’s attention while standing atop an igloo cooler was downright dangerous (we didn’t have a step ladder), but we survived. I don’t think the cooler did though. Oh the things I do for that perfect shot. What a gorgeous family and a beautiful outdoor setting. Hope you guys like these!
